Memphis Grizzlies fans were left holding their breath Tuesday night after rookie guard Jaylen Wells suffered a terrifying fall on a dunk attempt that went awry. The incident, which occurred during a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, resulted in Hornets guard KJ Simpson being ejected for a flagrant 2 foul.
Wells was attended to by the Grizzlies’ medical staff and eventually stretchered off the court, sparking widespread concern. While he later shared a hopeful message with fans, uncertainty lingered—until Wednesday brought a wave of relief.
According to Wells’s agent Aman Dhesi, via ESPN’s Shams Charania, the 21-year-old has been discharged from the hospital. Though he is expected to miss time as he recovers, the update is a significant step forward following a frightening moment.
Wells has been one of the season’s brightest surprises. Drafted in the second round, he’s averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while appearing in a league-leading 79 games—a testament to both his durability and impact on the young Grizzlies roster.
