Govt decides to ban AL until completion of ICT trial

 The interim government decided to ban all activities of the Awami League in cyberspace and elsewhere under the Anti-Terrorism Act until the International Crimes Tribunal completes the trial of the party and its leaders.

Law Adviser Prof Asif Nazrul said this at a press briefing after a special meeting of the advisory council tonight.

He also said, "This decision aims to ensure national security, protection of activists of the July movement, and plaintiffs and witnesses involved in the tribunal proceedings."

The special meeting of the advisory council also approved an amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal Act, 1973, said the law adviser.

"The tribunal will now have the authority to punish political parties, their affiliated organisations, or support groups," Nazrul added.

A necessary circular in this regard will be issued on the next working day.
